[Mission] The first job

He’d been in Rivertide for around two months now, living with Pesky for a few weeks and with everything slowly going to look up, Kurai now was out in the street and working his first, if cerainly not last job. Once he had a place to call home and that he could actually point out as an address in job applications, he’d been called back on one of them and was happy to jump on the first opportunity that presented itself to him.

“Vee”, came from behind him and Kurai glanced at his backpack that he held between his wings, where Ana was huddled deep inside. She looked rather sleepy, but in his honest opinion super cute with the little store-owned cappy on her head. ‘Fast and delicious - seafood for both human and Pokemon!’ was the slogan of the fast food joint that he’d been hired at as a delivery guy, with a cute little vest that had the restaurant's logo stitched on and a cap the entirety of the uniform he’d been given.

With a little hum he fastened the large bag filled with warm and delicious food on the back of his bike, then closed everything off. “Be mindful out on the street today!”, a colleague of his called back out. He turned to look back at the young woman, a student but working here part-time, leaning against the counter as there currently were no customers in the small store. “I’ve heard there have been a whole flock of Wingull that make their space on the street. Seems they’ve been startled by the storm last night.”

“I’ll take care”, the young man replied, just as Ana pushed her head fully out of the backpack to look past Kurai at the counter, raising her paws with a determined “Vee vee!” into the air. Clearly she would be happy to help out with any Wingull that dared to stand in their way. The woman chuckled, then went back to her work.

Kurai looked back at Ana with a little smile. “Do not bully them too much, alright?”, he asked with a little hum, to which the shroomish-eevee fusion simply looked back at him indignantly. Scrambling out of the backpack, she instead now sat down on the box, licking over her paws almost a little annoyed. Clearly she’d looked forward to some bullying of bird pokemon.

Relaxed, he got onto his bike, of course painted in the restaurant's colors and with its logo painted on, and pushed down the pedals. It was a simple task and one that not many enjoyed, but he always did, riding down the streets of Rivertide and feeling the wind in his hair without the usual stench of industry, drugs and crime that he was used to in Brookfell. Ana held more onto the bag, her little claws pushed against it, as the wind rushed along her ears. She kept her gaze forward as her trainer drove the bike along the street, the sound of squawking bird pokemon and waves crashing against the cliffs and harbors of Rivertide a constant.

Glancing down at the navi that had been worked into the bike, Kurai double checked the path, then turning into another street and continuing on his way. A few Wingull were quick to fly out of his way as he biked past them, the movements of their wings followed by Ana, who watched them disappear behind the houses.

“It seems we humans really aren’t the only ones happy to enjoy the warmth after the last storm!”, Kurai called back to Ana, who blinked and followed his gaze. They were currently driving past one of the many steps and dunes down to the ocean and in the distant waters, a large creature was lazily enjoying the sun burning on its back - a Wailord, not easy to miss. Ana let out another “Eevee!”, then quickly gave Kurai a slap on the wing so he focussed back on the street. “Sorry, sorry!”

Stopping in front of an apartment house, Kurai finally jumped off the bike, with Ana following him down. He opened the box and hummed as he got out a smaller bag, then jogged to the door. Checking the different names he then rang the doorbell, just as Ana ran after him and jumped up to land on his shoulder. With Frida being freshly evolved and no longer able to rest on their trainers shoulder and against the fluffy noivern fur around his neck, Ana had been happy to take her spot, even if not without a fight.

As the door opened, Kurai jogged up the staircase until he reached the needed floor, then handed over the bag, thanking the customer for the patronage - and then jogged back downstairs. All with a smile on his face, particularly happy as he got back onto the bike, with Ana jumping back onto the box.

“Alright. Time to see more of the city!”, Kurai hummed, continuing on his way. Ana glanced up at him. As much as he seemed to enjoy this job and the biking, she couldn’t help but let her gaze travel to the unused wings on his back.

Perhaps one day he’d feel comfortable enough with this form of his to fly as he explored the city, not shackled to the need of only allowing himself some fun when it was bound to some work. Truly. Who took a delivery job with the biggest reason being that he wanted to see the city?
