Wrench in the Works
Iris stepped back from the panel of electronics, wiping sweat from her brow and unintentionally spreading a bit of grease across it in the process. She grinned as she could feel the wind turbine start to work - it was a deep thrum that vibrated up through her body through her Pidgey-like feet. Finally. Finally. Weeks of work, troubleshooting, and pleading to Arceus, and it finally worked! Amazing how just a small thing that most windtechs overlooked or waved off as not the problem would have such an impact. Granted, the nesting Startata pair cussing her out with tweets, trills, and all sorts of other noises had something to say about what she’d done.
In reaction to all the noise and displeasure aimed at her, she could feel her own crest feathers fluff and raise some as she looked at them, a hand going to her hip as she scowled. “Well if you hadn’t built your nest there, I wouldn’t have had to move you!”
The tweets got louder and she rolled her eyes, glancing over to her sleeping Spoiblu, Babbu. He was curiously watching the goings ons from an out of the way perch, head tilted oh so slightly so his giant pearl didn’t roll off his head. He puffed up at a particularly aggressively sounding set of calls and she looked over to the nesting pair again. “OK, whatever you just said, that was just rude.”
They had originally been nesting in some of the machinery when there’d been downtime for the wind turbine, and a safety feature kept the machine from actually turning on with such an obstruction. She’d already fixed the hole the pair had gotten in from before she’d found them, and instead, the repair hatch was propped open so they could get in and out. Iris didn’t want to disturb them more than she already had, and the wicked sharp beaks the fusion Pokemon had could do a number on the structure if they felt trapped.
The two puffed up indignantly, their fur fluffed and tiny crests raising. She rolled her eyes as she knelt down, carefully putting away her tools and cleaning supplies. As carefully as she’d been able to given the haphazard nature of the nest, she’d set it off to the side and close to a wall. It wouldn’t do to move it only for it to get trampled by another maintenance worker, after all.
She gave a very avian-like whistle, amused at the fact the nesting Pokemon had quieted down, though they glared at her regardless for her trespass and she carefully put the strap to her toolbox over her head and rested it on her shoulder. Babbu stretched out his wings and body before flapping and gliding over to her shoulder. Sharp little claws dug into her shoulder for leverage, and she opened the exit hatch that led down the main tower of the wind turbine. A long climb down, but at least she’d fixed the problem. Just went to show that even the smallest thing could throw a wrench into the gears.
Now it was time to go home.
Iris uses her skills to fix a troublesome wind turbine.
