Frusteration born of worry

Mera noticed that she got a notification, a mission from blackthorn. "Calling all of blackthorn's helpers. A mysterious plant has started springing up around Wintervale. It appears to have properties similar to that of shadow pokemon. Please remove and bring me back samples. Warning, do not, and I repeat, do not make direct skin contact with the plant."

Mera knew how she was going to spend her day. She walked into her living room. "Hey guys, I'm going to leave for a mission, anyone want to come?"

Link perked up as he saw his chance. Her climbed onto Mera and perched himself on her shoulder. "Caw!" Link saluted. Link was ready to help.

Mera offered her arm, which Link gladly climbed over to. "Sorry buddy, but we're going into Wintervale. It's going to be really cold, and we'll be dealing with a dangerous to touch plant. I don't want you getting hurt."

Link sank down. He let out a sad "Caw..." He wanted to help! He wanted to be useful! He failed Mera by getting hurt in that mission before, but he could still be useful. Link grabbed onto Mera's arm and refused to let go.

"Link, I need my arm back." Mera gently tried to pry Link off her arm, but her little brother only tightened his grip. "Link, I'll need this for the mission."

Link very carefully tried to get out his phone. Spending half his attention to holding onto Mera, he immediately dropped it. He sadly "Caw!" at his phone, as his primary method of communication fell out of reach.

"Link, I'm not going to let you get hurt," Mera said to Link, Link's feathers flattened. "Now come on Link, let go. I'll be back in a few hours okay?"

Link shook his head. He wouldn't be useless. He clung onto Mera's arm. The moment he let go, the moment he lost.

Ganon, seeing Link cling onto Mera, wanted to join in. And what an easy to snatch flip flop she had. Ganon rushed in, and went for the flip-flop.

"Ahh!" Mera fell backwards at Ganon's tug. This was Link's chance to prove he was useful! He ran at Ganon. That annoying, little, Link often questioned Mera's taste in pokemon. But if he returned Mera's flip-flop to her, she would see how useful he was, and she would let him help her more.

That was easier said than done, as Ganon seemed to have limitless energy. Link chased him across Mera's apartment. Over the furniture, across the shelves. Link lunged at Ganon. He got in a struggle with that gremlin. Ganon bit into Link's arm, "SAL!" Link punched. If that was how Ganon was going to play then, Link unleashed a flurry of amateur punches and kicks until Ganon dropped the flip-flop. Link claimed his prize in glory. Ganon bit onto Link's tail, trying to pull him back, but Link wasn't going to let them stop him.

Seeing the bite marks on Link's arm sent a flood of panic into Mera's body. "Link! Are you okay?" Mera crowched over to Link, returning Ganon to get them off his tail.

"Caw!" Link presented Mera's flip-flop in glory.

"I'm so sorry I let Ganon hurt you," Ganon got Link good. Mera stood up and got a bandage, "You should rest up."

"dit..." Link fell over, his contribution meant nothing. Curse this weak body of his! He could only watch in sorrow as Deku and Rika were invited to go along with Mera. They barely behaved themselves, why did they get to go when Link never acted up ever.

With a 'bye Link' and the closing of the door, Link knew he was truely defeated. Why couldn't he evolve! If he could evolve, Mera would be so impressed. She would call him so strong. She wouldn't tell him that it was too dangerous while calling on Poe or Deku. Link would be helping her out.

Poe sensed a hug was needed. She floated over to Link, and gave him a hug! Hugs made everything better! Link was so much more huggable lately.

Link defeated, accepted the hug. For so long, Poe wasn't to be trusted. Link was still salty at Poe feeding him to the sharks. But, Poe also tried to save Link before. Poe was very warm, and there wasn't an ounce of malice in her body. Only untamed.

Link wanted to yell. He wanted to yell back at Mera for leaving him behind. But, he couldn't. He was so slow typing...

Poe continued to hug Link. She wasn't sure why he was still so sad, but she knew that hugs made everything better!
