Misery of a Dodongo

It was Dodongo's feeding time again. Mera got out the bag of pokekibble she set aside for Dodongo. She wasn't quite sure what they were suppost to eat, but she figured that as long as Dodongo stayed healthy their health wouldn't decrease, though it was hard to say how healthy being a shadow pokemon was in the first place.

When Mera came over, Dodongo was trying to eat the lamp, again. They were not having much luck, as they have not figured out how to turn their head at the pole.

"Hey buddy, it's okay, it's okay," Mera reached out for Dodongo. His skin was cold, and a strange mix of liquid, solid and gas. Feeding time was the only time Dodongo would let Mera pick them up. They let themselves get so hungry they had no choice but to eat. Mera turned Dodongo towards the pokekibble bag. Dodongo walked forward, opening their mouth and trying to swallow the entire bag in one bite. Mera opened the bag, and turned the opening leading to the rest of the food towards Dodongo.

Mera waited patiently for Dodongo to finish. Halfway into the bag, they were done. They began shaking. Dodongo thrashed around, feeling trapped in the bag. Mera grabbed Dodongo from behind and pulled them out. Upon release, Dodongo immediately began running. They ran and ran until they got to a vacant corner of the room with nothing around them.

Mera sighed. She wished she could help Dodongo better, but no one knew how. The nothing had tormented them for so long, and now they couldn't tell up from down and was scared of everything. Mera hated the nothing, hurting such an innocent pokemon.

Mera sat down a distance from Dodongo. She wasn't sure if Dodongo could hear or understand her, but she figured it couldn't hurt.

"Hey Dodongo," the pokemon didn't react. They continued to shake in place, brimming with fear. "Don't worry, you'll always have a place here. I'll keep you all save and fed. I'm not sure how, but one day, we're going to find a cure for this. And when that day comes, I'll be right here so you won't have to live in fear anymore."

Dodongo seemed completely unchanged. Mera sighed, of course. She hated it, all she could do was be there for them. She wanted to help them, but she had no idea how to start. Was bonding with shadow pokemon part of the process? That would be sweet, but she wasn't sure how much she wanted it to be true. Dodongo was mostly unresponsive, and Ganon made it his mission to torment her. Though Rika and Deku seemed to be having luck.

Was it a chemical or substance that could heal them? Mera hoped so. But she shuttered when she thought about her wallet. Not that long ago, she went broke trying to catch Dodongo and Ganon, and now she was just barley financially comfortable again. But considering Dodongo's unresponsive condition, Mera figured it would be their best hope.

Here, I wanted to explore Dodongo.  Next to Luma, they have the least characterization, and Luma's set to get smarter as she evolves.  As for Dodongo, he's fun to draw, but I have no idea how purifcation will work or what the furture holds for the poor little guy.  So this piece is dedicated to exploring Mera's relationship with Dodongo.
