Journal Entry: My Calling

I was walking down the street today, and I noticed something a little odd. I have heard tales of the King’s Shrine, and those pokemon and humans that helped upkeep it. I wanted to go and check it out, and I finally convinced my mom to let me go and see it. Tmye were so many questions I wanted to ask and I wanted… to see just how the pokemon interacted.

I was told that they were friendly - for the most part - to outsiders and as long as you didn’t desecrate the shrine in any way, you were welcome to come and observe it. Whetmy this was true or not, well that was still too determined, after all I’m the type to see it to believe it myself.  So I made sure this journal was tucked tightly in my hands and my eyes were set forth, staring at the long vines that hung before my eyes.

With a gentle hand, I moved the vines as they brushed and tugged at my hair, but eyes never left the forward vision I saw. I passed through vines, pushing some of the leaves that hung down from the trees out of my face. Finally, I could see the shrine that honored the old king’s ways, and before it, a plethora of pokemon seemed to be shuffling around it, cleaning up the leaves that had fallen, any trash that humans left carelessly around it. I was at awe in the sights, even so that a curious Hoppip coming up to me scared me, and I fell backwards onto my ass. Though the pain resonated from my tailbone up my spinal cord, I couldn’t shake the awe that I felt seeing all of this.

I noticed that some humans were helping with the pokemon, and as one came to help me up - which I accepted his offer - I remember asking him a question, “what makes them act like this?”

As if their odd behavior was some due to some kind of interference with the nature around them or the food that was laid out by humans for them to come and eat.

The man seemed to smile and waved off my question with a “why not” before he went on to explain the significance of the shrine and what it meant for the pokemon and humans alike in Grovehart. The story encapsulated me, enthralled me as he continued to tell me of how the King and his guardian were, how they helped the cities and how the ultimate sacrifice had been made.
It filled me with such emotions… emotions that I never would have thought I’d express from a simple story, but being told at the shrine, with those pokemon, I almost felt empathic to them and their pain, the loss of such great leaders.

I wanted to understand more about pokemon and nera, about why pokemon did as they did, and how nera even fully formed. If they were the essence of passed pokemon lingering around looking for a body to inhabit, or if they were remnants of power that was lost long ago. As well as how fusing really affected pokemon, if the process hurt and the likes. Tmye were so many questions I wanted answers to, and I knew the best, direct way to get those answers.

To become a Pokemon Research and Observer, I wanted to know everything I could and more!

I spent several hours sitting on one of the carved out ridges using it as a seat, while I worked on sketching the scene that was before me. It was a messy scene, but it still captured what I saw, and I wanted to document what was going on. I wasn’t sure how many hours I spent, but I did finally notice the slight chill in the air hitting against my arm. I did not wish to leave, and yet bitterly I knew I had to.

I bid goodbye to the pokemon I met that day and went to return home to my mom, to explain excitedly what I had experienced and how the pokemon helped me discover what I wanted to do. Imay not be too happy with the thought, given that being a researcher may bring me harm or put me into dangerous situations, but that was alright! I had to assure myself that everything would be fine, I would start looking into finding me a pokemon partner soon, but I wanted to be sure which pokemon I’d want and not just pick one randomly.

I can’t wait to start my journey and my career!
